Network Library – Key Categories
Get instant access to over five years of worth of instructional content. All monthly topics are focused on a particular area of the game.

All lessons are organized within the following easily accessed categories – whatever your project, or what you are working in – you can go quickly to find targeted lessons for everything under the tennis sun. Throughout the library many lessons are backed up by actual professional footage, which clearly shows how the fundamentals are the same for the pros as they are for you.
Timing, rhythm, court awareness, patterns of play, how to narrow your focus when hitting and expand your focus to see what the opponent does with their return, drop shots, nuances of grip and how those grips influence the point of contact and resulting spin
Eastern forehands, semi western forehands, whipping full western forehands, inside out and up the line, and of course many lessons on stepping inside the baseline to take the ball at the top of the bounce and make something happen
One handed and two handed backhands, under spin, over spin, use of the shoulders, examples of Federer and Djokovic, backhands need not be avoided, this section of the library will show you how and why.
The most important shot in the game, often the most difficult to master – our lessons cover everything from soup to nuts – balance, rhythm, height of toss, serving tall, nuances of the grip, keys to a glancing (read spinning) blow.
Think “wall to the ball” – here we present lessons on high volleys, low volleys, volleying to the open court, and specifically how this essentially blocking hit looks and feels so much different topspin forehands or side spin serves.
Movement is often called the name of our game, and when it comes to the feet we have many many lessons on how to start more quickly, what precise balance looks and feels like at contact, and how recovery is more than just getting back, but rather back to something called the “midline of the opponent’s angle of play”.
If the majority of the game is played “between the ears” – we have scores of articles on relaxation, focus, monitoring effort and minimizing errors – all from the point of view of choosing the correct shot, choosing the best attitude, and letting the winning take care of itself (for it will).
An entire section devoted to the tactical elements of the game, many lessons are presented with overhead court diagrams, showing how the geometry of the court often dictates either the correct shot (from you) or how to cause the incorrect shot (from the opponent).
Teamwork, partnering, setting your partner up when they are in front of you at the net, playing ground strokes to the moving rather than the stationary net opponent, again many lessons are presented with overhead diagrams which clearly show what to do when, and why.
Look at What Other People Are Saying...
No lesson I have ever had with a teaching pro — and I’ve had a lot — ever made the kick serve remotely as clear as Jim McLennan’s superb online videos. Bravo!
James Kaplan, co-author (with John McEnroe), You Cannot Be Serious, and (with Brad Gilbert) I’ve Got Your Back
Of all the tennis experts who are around, I consider Jim the absolute guru of the serve. My serve is now the best and most reliable its ever been. I savor serving to close out a set at 5-4, or to stay in it at 4-5. I greatly value the advice Jim gives and what is in his voluminous archives. I recommend ETI to all my tennis buddies and teammates.
Greg Franzo
Jim possesses a deep understanding of the game and unique ability with words. His thoughts convey the intention of making each reader better through self-knowledge and his words are clear and visual.
Michael Jessup, formerly ATP ranked 300
I really appreciate your humble tone combined with a true passion to learn. Most people with even a small part of your knowledge base can have an edge of over-confidence. Yours is the edge of being a true student of the game and you share it eloquently with the rest of us. Thank you for all your contributions.
Joe Dinoffer, OncourtOffcourt.com
As one of the few master instructors found online, you consistently simplify the complex for your followers. I hope they appreciate the tens of thousands of hours and years you have devoted to your expertise...it shows! Your site is one of only a handful that I will confidently send my students and online followers to for the fundamentals of the game. Keep up the great work!
Scott Harper
I've signed up for two other on-line tennis "courses" in the past and Mr. McLennan's was decidedly the best. Unique, concise, genuinely helpful.
